Ruler

On that twelfth inch
Come so far it seems
But it just the first foot to your life
It wasn’t straight forward either
You had twists and turns in those 12 inches
Even some of those inches felt like feet
Crawling when you fell
Sprinting when you felt great
Should have been turned around
Sprint when you stumble
Crawl when you are on top
The first grade
When guys had cooties
Guys would chase the girls around
Then at the half way point
When dating was a fad
Everyone wanted a boyfriend or girlfriend for a day
Then you would have a broken heart
But now we are getting the grasp of life and how it will be
Not a cake walk
Like we all thought
You have to go out and get what you want in life
It is not going to be fed to you
Like breakfast in bed
School is just the first foot in life
It gets you ready for the reality of life
Now you have made it through that first foot
The rest will seem like yards
