Mum

In my whole life there's only been one,
Who's been there by my side in all the days gone,
You've helped me see that the simplest of things,
Can bring a smile, like swinging on swings.

You've helped me appreciate life to the full,
You've helped me see that life isn't that dull,
People seem to think there's something special in me,
And the reason for that is clear to see.

I was brought up by you; my shining star,
And you taught me to be everything that you are,
You're extremely special and it comes from the heart,
I know that without you I would fall apart.

The child in you has been pushed deep within,
And sometimes you feel that your life is a sin,
But that girl inside holds joy in her hands,
A joy that lives not in far away lands.

This joy she holds close and doesn't let go,
She still has big hopes, and I think that you know,
You dream that there's someone out there who can see,
You're not the woman you wish you could be.

But that woman you wish deep inside that you were,
She dreams she is someone, not at all like her,
She wishes she could be more like you,
Able to do all the things you can do.

Be glad of yourself, for you are a gift,
Sent to earth to give people a lift,
A light-hearted approach, yet a meaningful thought,
Something special as you, could never be bought.

No one else can love, like I love you,
Be proud of yourself, of the things you can do,
A smile on your face brings a warmth to my heart,
And I dread the day that we drift apart.
