Beating the Odds

by Jenni G   Jul 10, 2007

Across the room I see a handsome face
Hoping I'd find a seat by his place
By chance one leaves his side
An opportunity I hope to ride

Our eyes connect as I wage a smile at him
He licks his lips and sips his gin
Carefully I observe each and every mannerism he makes
Hoping for that cue so I can begin to rake

Dominatingly he calls on me
As I quietly sit and pay to see
He turns to me as I flop my hair
Watching me, I catch his stare

Wishing he would just play
And knowing I would stay
How could I take on this handsome man?
As I look down I developed my plan.

Staying focused I reached in for the fee
Risking everything in front of me
One more than I am home free
Crowds begin to come and see

He reads me like a love book
Turning the pages with every look
As I deceptively mastered his game
Hoping I wouldn't put him to shame

If only my king will save me this night?
Or will I be out of his sight?
My blood flows like a river
Sending vibrations I quiver

Composed I lay my hand at showdown
As his face begins to frown
A royal flush is hard to beat
His stack is mines to keep
