The Nearest Exit

The Nearest Exit

This suffocating disease swims undetected,
Through corriders of wide-open history.
And though the ending always seem better--
Details are always caged-in whispers

One man, one brother clasping a gun,
Another shaking with hopeless dirt in hands.
The nation stands by with cheers and roars,
Mother, forgive me, I've failed the test

She, the first light falls ill and weeps
As humans scrape among faceless walls
Though the halls are ablaze in light
They cannot see past their crooked minds

The very best of friends comes to trial
In shackles and a deal sworn to kill
They eye each other with the last fond thought--
Then bend to biased written words

These teenagers living their life at large
Carefree, jaunty, wild as the world--
Denying any trace, any evidence of pain,
Shrugging off even the most vivid death

I find myself locked inside a classroom
Punished for what seems so trivial
Burning words scarred in scarlet mesh
To take the nearest exit or die miserably
