My Dangerous Journey

by Regina   Aug 4, 2007

Roses are red and your hair is red, too
So, for this poem to work, I need something blue
Let me tell the story of my dangerous quest
A most treacherous journey that put courage to the test
I went to the store to search wide and search far
To find something blue, the envelope for your card
As I stood on the outside looking in on that place
I wish you were there to see the look on my face
I took a step forward while holding my breath
Contemplating my move through the sliding doors of death
Once safely inside of that everything store
I chose the first card I saw on the stand by the door
I rushed over to pay for the treasure I'd found
And while waiting in line, my heart started to pound
Sweat dripped from my forehead on the floor it did splash
When I realized that I hadn't brought enough cash
But, the sweating subsided, my heart stopped beating so hard
When I realized that I had my ATM card!
So, I hope you appreciate all the hardships endured
When I went to the store to buy your birthday card!
