I Wonder

I wonder if he misses them
Who does he think of more-them or me
Does he ever toss and turn in thought
Or wonder how it really could be

What would it be like if he was back at that ranch
And I was without him all these days
How would I be different if I didn't have him
How would my life have changed

I know it's strange to think of
And I know he loves me but there's something in his eyes
Maybe I'm just a little crazy
Or maybe I see through his disguise

It's not like he had a choice whether or not to come with me
He was loaded onto a trailer and taken to the stalls
He was mine after the contract was signed
And he answers only to my calls

I wonder if he misses them
When he runs round and round
I wonder what he thinks about
Laying in the sun on the ground

I'm sure he doesn't enjoy it
When that colt nips at his heels
I wish I knew exactly
What it was that he feels

Maybe it's just me
But it looks like he's alone
Surrounded by friends, but he looks sad
Maybe it's because he doesn't feel at home

I think I may be crazy
To wonder what is in a horse's head
But some days he's just what I need to cheer me up
With no words to be said

Possibly I need him more than he needs me
Or maybe I'm thinking too deeply into a horse
I'm racing in circles around him just trying to understand
The truth to which could end up being my own remorse
