Forgotten by Tomorrow

by Jessie Hawkins   Aug 25, 2007

I want to tell you a story
And I wish it were filled with glory
I wish I could tell you all will be well
And someone will get up from where they fell
But this story ends in sorrow
And will be forgotten by tomorrow

The story I want to tell you is of a boy and a girl
Yes, a love story, but their love was like a rare pearl
Pure and true, yet fragile
For each kept their hearts in a small vial
Because their hearts were kept in such a small space
Their heartaches were transparent on their face

In this story, the girl knew nothing of love
Before she met the boy, there was no white dove
Before she met the boy, she was completely alone
The girl knew nothing of the sweet cologne

In this story, the boy had been in love
Before he met the girl, he hated any bird that resembled a dove
Before he met the girl, he was also alone
The boy detested any woman's sweet cologne

As I warned, there is sorrow in the start and end
Be warned because there is happiness around the bend

When the boy and the girl met
There was no wedding date set
There was no love at first sight
It was actually opposite; there was a fight

In this fight there was no blood and gore
Both it did leave the boy and the girl sore
As it happens, the boy and the girl are both competitive
And when losing they both are very sensitive

They fought over being the best at dancing
And while they were word fencing
A fellow friend of the boy had thought of a plan
He thought that the girl could use a man
And thoughtfully looked at the two
"You two must prove if you can really move your shoe"
The boy's fellow friend announced
He told the two that the winner he would pronounce
And the one who is crowned winner
Will be obligated to buy dinner

Both agreeing to the bet
Both thought the title winner was what they would get
The rules were simple
They had to dance together to get points that were triple
And who ever is more talented at the art
Will get the winning position with a head start

As it turned out, the two were the same
No one was better to beat the other at the game
They so equally matched that all the others stared
Boy's fellow friend announced that dinner's price would be shared

The coincidence that the two are so in sync was strong
Which proves that together, these two belong
In this story, the boy and the girl are meant to be
But this plain fact, they fail to see

At dinner they argued which meal was best
And which was the worst, the one they detest
They argued for so long with each other
That their friends soon left them in the gutter
And finally alone together
They started agreeing on the weather

By the end of the night, the boy and the girl
Had uncovered that precious pearl
And no matter their flaws
Neither cared about each other's claws

Though the two may be happy
And if you think that I am getting sappy
Remember that sorrow ends this story
And that there is no glory

In this story, the boy and girl each have one close friend
And in this story, each of those friends prove themselves a fiend
In this story, there are no friends that remain true
And in this story, trouble is a brew

The boy's fellow friend was watching from a distance
And although he wanted to be happy for the two, he was jealous of his acquaintance
He never realized that he was the one who wanted the girl
And he started planning a way to break the lover's pearl

He was not alone in his scheme
The girl's best friend was in on his dream
Together the two best fiends would break the two
And remove loves sticky glue
Together the two fiends, both a little green
Would create a big huge scene

The night dragged long
But not for the boy and girl who belong
They skipped with the clock hands
Only stopping to get matching wristbands
They were unaware
Of their two friends jealous stare

The boy and the girl were happy
And when the two got a little sappy
Their two friends jumped to their part
And the scene began to start

Determined to make the girl see
The boy's friend clapped his hands with glee
And on a screen above
Appeared a picture with the boy carrying a dove
Next to the boy's picture was a blond
And the boy was looking at her very fond

The girl then looked at the boy
And the boy look back, noticing the ploy
Horror crossed the girl's face
And the boy did not miss a pace
Tried to explain that the picture was a fake
That it was made up to benefit somebody's sake

Seeing the girl's untrusting eyes
The boy's friend clapped for the next surprise
Again a picture flashed on the screen
And it showed a picture of a wedding scene
At the alter it showed a couple facing each other
And to their side it showed another
It was the boy's friend standing to the side
And in the grooms place there was no trying to hide
The boy stood there
Holding hands with the bride who had blond hair

The girl let out a sob
And tears ran down her face like a slob
She turned to face her lover for the night
Hurt was there and her lips pulled tight
She said no words, but spoke with her eyes
Daring him to tell more lies

The boy turned then to his fiend
The one he once called his friend
There he saw then the lies
That caused the girl's sad cries

This is where I stop telling the story
The ending is yours to add a little glory
Whether the boy and girl stay true
It's up to you to fill my shoe
But either way the story has sorrow
Either way it will be forgotten by tomorrow
