The Race

by SoulChild07   Aug 28, 2007

The gun went off, and I started off fast
Running from pain, running from the past
Trying to reach the future that I know is close
Yet, all of my thoughts suddenly froze

As sweat started to pore, so did tears,
In remembrance to all those years
That I loved with a love more than love
I was weak, and you gave me a shove

Done with Lap 1, on to the next
Who'd ever thought love could be so perplexed
Each step I took was perfect, or so I thought
But how could I keep focused with all the emotions I fought

On to Lap 2, my throat, oh so dry
But all I wanted was to lay down and cry
To hear your voice, thats so so sweet
But I knew I had this race to complete

Finally, I finished, it was no fun
But I stopped, realizing what I had done
I'd gone through it too quickly, had no time to think
Of the good times in this love, no chance to rethink

Yet, I know in my heart, all is good
But you would only know if you really understood
How I came to my emotions, face to face
And what it took for me, to win this race..
