Withering leaves droop over a saddened face -
A whispering willow is falling down from grace,
Strangers faces blur in and out of her fading sight;
For a few more weeks of life, she puts up a fight.
Scratches are rusting her bark down to her core,
And lovers names are carved into her heart forevermore.
Through many years the wind had kept her confined;
Her soul is fading, and her roots are entwined.
The soil is crumbling beneath her weight;
And she screams out some wishes for her soul mate .
Withering leaves droop over a saddened face,
A whispering willow is falling down from grace.

Strangers faces blur in and out of her fading sight,
For a few more weeks of life, she puts up a fight;
Thunder rolls inside her trunk, as she wilts away;
And she calls out for help at the words they say --
A man will be coming down in a day or two,
It`s her time to come down - her life is now through.
A new tree will be planted to take her place,
For now, she`s just taking up too much space.
It`s been fifty long years now, and it`s her time to go;
She`ll be forced to leave the place she`s come to know,
Withering leaves droop over a saddened face,
A whispering willow is falling down from grace.

Scratches are rusting her bark down to her core,
And lover`s names are carved into her heart forevermore.
The song being sung is no longer of a lover`s melody,
But it is the rhythm of a Shakespearean tragedy.
In iambic pentameter, her dying branches dance;
Wishing for just one more season, one last chance --
To prove to the world that her bare bark is not only scratches,
And that her heart is no longer covered in deep-red patches.
She strives off of the soil, to give her what she needs;
Soaks up the last of her life with much needed greed.
Withering leaves droop over a saddened face --
A whispering willow is falling down from grace.
