Being Me

by Broken Inside   May 3, 2004

Don’t hurt me, Dad,

I don’t mean to be bad.

I don’t want to leave you,

I don’t know how much more I can take.

You say it’s Mommy’s fault,

But how could it be, Dad?

She hasn’t been around.

You make up excuses,

But I don’t want to hear.

I want to go far away,

Sail on a boat, or fly in a plane.

I will one day, Dad.

You won’t be able to stop me,

I’ll grow up and be who I want to be.

I’m not just going to be anything,

I’m going to be me.
