Scene Two

by Byron   Oct 3, 2007

Her eyes begin to open
The light bounces from the glass that confines her inside
"I notice a change." She says confused
She holds her hand to the wall and slides it across the plaster where the holes that are concealed (a pain that is now covered)
"Can you feel it too?" she asks the blank wall
As she stares harder into the paint the wall's expression becomes clear
"I know you can't feel." A pause that chills her spine
"I know I can't feel." She thinks as the words slip past her teeth
And her hand falls steadily back to her bed.
As she pulls the covers up to her eyes to wipe the tears from her cheeks
She can hear the words echo in her mind. She can see her pain come entwined with the thoughts of living alone
"These sheets hold my dreams." She says
But her words just fade in this empty room
"These sheets keep me safe." She cries
But her words fall short of others ears
"This bed is my grave." She screams
As her words come back to haunt her.
"This bed is my grave, In which I lay awake, so patiently I wait, for night to embrace, this sorrow I hold." She whispers this secret to the wall that has greeted her every morning
As she closes her eyes and waits for the night she sleeps through the day to kill thoughts of her life.
