Daddy dont leave

by Katelyn   Nov 20, 2007

You sent him away without caring what she said
You told him to leave as soon as possible
He held her tight and kissed her instead
He got yelled at and then sent off
A plane ride across the U.S.
A ride across the ocean
A long ride through the dessert
Heat beaming down on his neck
A helmet stuck on top of his head
Combat boots strapped to his feet
Being brave, holding a gun
Learning how to never run
Getting bombs thrown at his face
Knowing that saving us is the case
Fighting for everything he believes in
Wanting to finish what they started
Win and get out of there
But hes stuck with the things he cant change
And theres too big of a range
From his small tent to his home
A wife and daughter he lives to love
That he won’t ever see again
His life stolen in the blink of an eye
A young man gone before his time
Nothing left for him to fight
Except that one awful sight
His wife and daughter left
With no one to protect them again
From any big or awful sin
His funeral he watches from so far above
The quite sobs of his lost loves
Tears fall and people pray
A folded up flag coming her way
A daughter left with her daddys eyes
Tears filling them softly
As their bright glow dies
A big black bow tied up in her hair
Her little feet not willing to go anywhere
Her blue eyes locked on the picture of her daddy
Such a serious look on his face
Something she hardly ever saw
But scary as it seems
She cant remember his beauty and grace
All his wonders upon his face
Her curly blonde hair falling at her shoulders
Wishing more than anything she were older
She slowly gets up and walks to the front of the church
There she sees a familiar face
Before her she lays her hands
On a casket of a brave dead man
The one that told her bed time stories
The one that tucked her in
She began to talk out loud
Suddenly filling a soundless cloud
“Please daddy, be sleeping
wake up from your dream
Im losing you daddy
Even more and more it seems
I need you here by my side
With you here I don’t have to hide.
So please daddy, comfort me
Be in my heart
And never leave.”
With that she turned around to see
An entire congregation at their feet
Not a single dry eye
Not even hers
Not everything that happens wants to be chose
And they realized this as they watched the casket close
