A Tower of Delight

by Sanath Kumar   Nov 22, 2007

It was a Saturday afternoon that I left for the Tower
Luckily, on that day, there was no shower!

With an abundance of expectation,
My friend and I alighted at the metro station.
Just a few minutes' walk from there
And lo! On our left was a sight rare!

While some people screamed with joy,
Others seemed to quietly enjoy.
A barrage of camera clicks all around,
At the tower that stood 324m from the ground!

A shape so aesthetic never was seen
Even in the world's most beautiful queen!
My heart leapt with ecstasy
I pinched myself to confirm it wasn't a fantasy!

It was perhaps an ideal place for an Indian movie duet
It had the power to transform a novice like me into a poet!

A steel tower full of bracings and ties
Tears of joy moistened my eyes.
Rivets after rivets, bracings after bracings,
The structure seemed to be decked with lacings!

Gustave Eiffel had transformed his dreams into a reality
And engraved his name on the sands of eternity!

The Tower is definitely a source of inspiration
For all Civil Engineers with lot of aspiration.
