Cyan Gemstones (Tanka)

by NyellMoonlight   Nov 24, 2007

Silky threads of night
entwined with river's stillness
gentle zephyr caressed
mirroring droplets of rain,
my soul wandered with the moon.

Tanka is a classic form of Japanese poetry related to the haiku with five unrhymed lines with syllable count 5-7-5-7-7

I enjoyed this a lot... I think with some formed poetry, especially the shorter ones, people tend to forget that every word needs to be used particularly and with poetic intention. You have not forgotten that here. I like how your last like is a departure from the smooth water-droplet-esque descriptions of the earlier poem, into a cooler and almost more forlorn mood, but it still works.
