Sleep for the Rest of Eternity

by Painted on Smile   Dec 17, 2007

I scream at the top of my lungs,
but no one hears a sound
i stand still as the world rushes past
i raise my arms and throw back my head
yelling to the sky
screams of frustration and pain
i walk slowly down a small street; alone
the buildings on both sides closing in
towering above me, coming ever closer
crushing me, waves on a storm swept sea
brick walls draw rapidly closer
the desire to lash out riding in my chest
for i so greatly want to turn,
taking it all out on those deep red stones,
for they feel no pain
i throw open a door and crash up the stairs
attempting to release anger with each thunderous step
i throw myself upon the mattress
instantly longing for sleep
for no dream nor nightmare
can be worse than this monstrous reality
my chest burns, my breath quickens
gulping at the air
my red shirt warms my body
my eyes shut finally receiving
that sleep which i yearned for
for the rest of eternity
