Lessons from solitude

Lessons from Solitude

Being brought up in a close knit family
I had never known what it was like to be lonely
Sometimes I even got really angry
About not having the freedom I needed so badly

I then got to study staying in a hostel
But , I didnâ??t get a taste of solitude there as well
Friends were there at the blow of a whistle
Though life was fun , I was still dismal

Now , Iâ??m working away from home
In a faraway place called Rome
If I want to , I can be alone
If I feel like , all alone I can roam

Then why is it Iâ??m seeking for company
Why solitude isnâ??t like eating sugar candy
Why mails from family I look forward to fondly
Why calls from friends I wait for eagerly

Thatâ??s because I learnt a lesson from solitude quite amazing
Solitude to me was just building a fencing
Not to keep my people from entering
But , to see who tries to break them and come in

Nice poem. I hope you don't need to make a "fence" of solitude at any point of time in life.

Wonderful. i too have a close knit family. problem is i hate it. i embrace the darkness and the solitude i get at school. it's nice to see what's on the other side once in a while. thank you
