Balloons

by silhouette fairy   Jan 12, 2008

Sitting at the balcony
looking intently down at the crowd
he smiles slyly,
knowing each of them are in for a treat.

calling in the new year
the party was prepared
he tended to the balloons
set to drop as the clock strikes midnight.

air filled balloons,
so everyone thinks,
will plummet to the ground
soaking everyone with their contents.

silently waiting
he watches the clock
slowly the seconds tick away
finally approaching the moment

his first trick of a new year
only seconds away
his voice rings out
counting down five...four...

his smile widens
three...two...
he shouts out one
as everyone shrieks in shock

one by one the balloons drop,
one by one the crowd gets hit.
his best friend turns, looking his way
wet hair stuck to his face, but below it a grin.

following the stairs
he joins his friend
and with a slap on the back he says
"you trickster, why was I not in on this?"

Grinning the two friends
join in a toast to one year's end
and another's new beginning
