Selfishness (And It's Implications)

by ALEX   Jan 17, 2008

Yes sir, I am foolish.
Foolish as the man who shovels his driveway while
it's still snowing and
wonders why we laugh.
Why we mock his hopeless battle against the elements
as we watch from the warmth of our
living rooms.
Why we don't leave that warmth to tell him that it's better to wait.
But wait! Eventually,
he will figure this out.
And you can be sureu that next winter,
when some other new neighbor leaves their
warm, new living room to shovel, that
same man will be watching from his window,
chuckling at the inexperience.
The foolishness.
And so, I wonder why we don't give aid
to those who need it.
To those who are lost or confused.
Those who are naive.
We were all naive once.
Before we allowed ourselves to be
corrupted by our malevolent, selfish society.
Where we care only for ourselves,
and there is no room for weakness.
Because weakness means loss.
And loss equals pain.
And pain, no doubt, reincarnates itself
as weakness in a vicious cycle...
Weakness.
Loss.
Pain.
Weakness.
Loss.
Pain.
Why can't we be pleased -satiated-
by the simple fact that we are here?
Why "prove" our existence with extravagant
theorems, only to bring the disembodied
nation to... mass depression?
And as things progress, the meds
will get stronger. The doses will
get larger, and people will become
immune to their beneficcience.
Our world will collapse.
And who will be blamed?
Him.
Her.
But not me...
No.
Not me.
