by gasping for air   May 15, 2004

She stands there,
Watching him walk by,
As if they were total strangers,
And nothing had ever happened between them.
Her heart crumbles,
Each time he ignores her existence,
She had given so much,
He had meant the world to her.
Whenever she sees him,
Her heart flutters,
She thinks of how wonderful he was,
And she feels her heart cry out.
They had shared so many happy times,
So many acts of love,
Her heart ached to be with him again,
But her head reminds her heart,
Of how horribly he treated her,
When he decided he didn't want her,
Anymore.
And yet her heart still cries out,
For his love,
All her heart wants is to be in those arms,
Having him hold her and never let go.
At the same time,
Her head keeps telling her,
You hate him and want him to hurt,
Twice as much as he hurt you.
She wants to believe her head,
She's getting tired of hurting because of him,
But no matter how much she says she hates him,
Deep down she really doesn't.
And it's tearing her apart,
Piece by piece,
Slowly but surely,
She's falling apart.
All because she let him,
Fool her into thinking he really cared,
That he loved her and only her,
That there was no one else for him.
She doesn't know it,
But each day that passes,
She gets a little closer to being over him,
It's only a matter of time.
Before you know it,
She'll be able to walk past him,
And not even notice he's there,
Or that he even exists.
That time is still a long way down the road,
But she'll get there in the end,
And when she does,
She'll be the happiest she's ever been.
Even happier than the small time,
She was with him.
