Innocence Incumbent 9-23-04 (Song)

by Phil Laws   Jan 20, 2008

Do you feel that we should learn to deal with frustration now
'N' do you think maybe our goals could be more realistic anyhow
Do you find you can control your mind to be you in a crowd
'N' do you see how we could be more free if reactions weren't allowed

We were not born with anger fear or sorrow
We would not mourn them leaving us tomorrow
We could not warn;these habits have their cargo
We have not sworn to never let each scar go

Well maybe it's today
that we can learn to say
I've got a problem here
So I'm working it away
'N' maybe by tonight
We'll be feeling more light
When we walk out from our fears
To talk about the sight
'N' maybe in a week
We'll learn each day's unique
To focus on what's dear
And stop making ourselves weak
'N' maybe in the end
We won't have to pretend
When a stranger gets our ear
And we answer like a friend

Do you trust we should always adjust through adversity
'N' do you feel that the ordeal is real though you chose your difficulty
Do you know you'll own what your thoughts show, whether it's grief or glee
'N' do we really need to help pain breed; meditating it to be

We were not born with anger fear or sorrow
We would not mourn them leaving us tomorrow
We could not warn;these habits have their cargo
We have not sworn to never let each scar go

Well maybe it's today
that we can learn to say
I've got a problem here
So I'm working it away
'N' maybe by tonight
We'll be feeling more light
When we walk out from our fears
To talk about the sight
'N' maybe in a week
We'll learn each day's unique
To focus on what's dear
And stop making ourselves weak
'N' maybe in the end
We won't have to pretend
When a stranger gets our ear
And we answer like a friend

Phil, I love the whole concept of this that although we have pain and grief we should still live for the todays and not dwell on what's happened or even what's to come because we will all suffer some pain in our life time. I really like the whole idea of it and I'd like to thank you for pointing me in the direction of this piece because it's set an whole new light on things.

    Take care, Em

It's one of my favorite self help works that I wrote because I seriously needed help. I worked through a lot of things like this on paper.
