Deja Vu 3-29-01 (Song)

by Phil Laws   Jan 20, 2008

It's possible I went too far
Sitting here thinking what chances are
Deja vu clears my fears
That it's comforting to know
I've been here before
And survived the show
At a crosswords peace
In the corner of a dim bar
I can find my mind removed
As hints of matters linger far
From answered pleas
To clues confused
In the shade I'm afraid to know
They'll watch me juggle all my wants
As my needs fall I soon follow
The shallow fellow swallows hollow days
But is pride my new jacket
My house of worship
My field to play
To abuse and amuse them with user ways
That's not how I want to stay
It's too much to pay
Deja vu clears my fears
That it's comforting to know
I've been here before
And survived the show
Traveling in the shadow of needs
But not to find my own ground
Just to stumble through inviting doors
Dangerous is the nature found
Blues flow in like a winter storm
And the dancers don't shy from the sound
Of the cough and the wheeze
The road borne disease I carry around
That I've no time to stay away
As my history is drowned
And my futures fade in gray
From all the liquor I've downed
Deja vu clears my fears
That it's comforting to know
I've been here before
And survived the show
My life suspended behind me
Built on bindings and reams
Between the soul and esteem
Where each word costs more than it means
Unlike simple passings
Where one statement can change a lifetime
Away from the courthouse of friends
Whose words design can confine
To a small life of short years
Though it seems it's fidelity and fealty
It's impossible to authenticate
And even tougher when you know for sure
By then it's much too late
Deja vu clears my fears
That it's comforting to know
I've been here before
And survived the show
With famine all about
I was feeding a ghost
As heat stroke dried me out
I offered up a toast
Deja vu clears my fears
That it's comforting to know
I've been here before
And survived the show
