Imperceptible Curtains 7-19-00

by Phil Laws   Jan 21, 2008

The imperceptible curtains
That rise and fall with interpretations of intent
And the force in characters pivotal interaction
In confides and conflicts
Each onset is on stage
And even backstage thoughts
Manifest in movements of disbelief and conviction
Through every lick of the eyelids
The scene is cut
And the notice in between
he perception of gain and loss
May remind that equals don't equate
Or that painless is as good as loveless
But the sharing of character has no base value
Esteemed and gaining respect
Not to overshadow anymore
For upstage left
Now alone in an emotive spotlight
To interpret the lines
The phrases of assurance that only question the roles
The depth of a player to act out a ghost
But is front and center for soliloquy
Or have you romance in this comedy
If lives were all one-acts would we truly choose tragedy?
Or can any gain for the play without losing themselves
Determination is not for the villain alone
But heroes can't ride off into a backdrop
So is talent and charisma the sole road to greatness
Or can a subtle barmaid rescue a prince
And what does it mean for a pauper to risk it all...
On hope
If hope is all they truly have
I say it's openness that wins the notice
Presence and class are mere distractions
Frequently forgone for the ability to relate
The believability of a set for our movements
And the props that find placement in all our quirks of fate
Will always remain speechless
To communicate more in their realness
Not because emotion is senseless
But because truth needs more translation than words
And interpretation, even more fickle in bright eyes
Than a scene of dramatic nightmares
