When You Still Cared

by Danielle   Jan 30, 2008

There's memories that dance in my mind
Flashes of moments spent laughing in the wind
You
Me
Tears that stung our eyes
As the faint whisper of goodbye filtered through the air

There's moments I wish I could go back too
Say everything differently
I would take your hand and walk with you
I would tell you all you meant to me
Wipe the tears from your eyes
And wish for you a life you deserve
Tell you, this is all I've ever needed

But with each passing day
And this silence we've built
Going back isn't what we need
Isn't what I need
It hurts too much, knowing you've forgotten
And the memories mean nothing to you now
So I'll pack away every thought
Box up each frame
Hide them away in the attic of my mind
I'll tell myself; for just a flitting moment . . .
You cared

I'll think of you
Carry with me the memories
But I won't stand here, hiding in the shadows of what was
I'm moving on
Leaving behind you and me
For your not worth the time I spend wishing
You still cared
