My 14 year old just turned 15 has been singing this for the past 3-4 days all day at home...blaring loud.
Are the lyrics of this hit from James Blunt, fitting enough for him as he rescued you? though he might want to change the last line on stanza's 3, 5 & 6 to fit him.

Anyway, thanks, troops. My birthday was grand, and 25 is off to a good start. I just finished my first year of grad school, and I have a few weeks free (of class, at least. Not work.) until I have to turn my brain on again. The weather is warm, apple trees are blooming, and everything's coming up Raspberry Ice Nymphs.

But yeah. T*** came out and we went b****** with some friends and we lounged around my apartment had some really great f**** all weekend long. I even got to eat a little c***.

Yup, I don't associate a birthday with "smelly (=musty) books", but a nice "cake covered with minty iceing" may be a wonderful choice ..based on Sibs declared favorites on her profile.

Yes, basil was a moderately good yet completely incorrect guess, ALS. Slightly better than old balls (no offense, Britt). Nowhere near as good as old brandy (which I've developed a penchant for, Larry).

The smell of old books is one of the best gifts of the world to me. I go to op shops just so I can open up a vintage edition and breathe in its brew. I have bought some gorgeous books that are written in other, almost extinct languages for inhalation purposes only. So, by guessing how much I love their smell, I can only imagine how someone like Sibs, who is a wonderfully sensual and poetic soul, has grown up sleeping with books, and has dedicated her life to being a librarian and archivist and all things literature, must love it too.

Otherwise she is screwed. In fact, T*** is also screwed in that case because he gave her the same gift in physicality. I hope all our musty and dusty gifts did not make you sick, Sibs. ALS has me worried.

Old book smell is good. I don't always like the yellow, acidic, mouldy smell of bookstores, because it makes my eyes feel so sad.

But OLD books... heck yes. Leather and linen and thread, oh my. Or the sweeter smell of parchment. Yeah, give me some of that urine-soaked animal membrane any day. That's the stuff.

Well, if you two like "musty" smell and "acid" discoloration so much then you might want to carry the sanitizers in your handbag as well :)

So, what is the answer to this 350 year old "soiled" and "musty" thing? You have us now wondering with this new riddle. Is it another re-written version of the famous book, K**S*** , (350 yrs....is as old as the Taj Mahal) and needs an "archival box" for the next 100 years if it is so valuable? :)

The silent "A" is an un-necessary and probably incorrect British add on many of these Hindi / Sanskrit translated words. The root words do not have any A's at all. Once incorporated, it is difficult to remove them from usage in English.
e.g.
Rama is really written and pronounced in Hindi as Ram
Krishna, likewise is really Krishn
Kama Sutra is Kam Sutr
Ramayana is Ramayan
Mahabharata is Mahabharat

When I used asterisks for Kam Sutr, I did not realize that the altered words in English are the only one's recognized. So you are correct :)

Dear Sibs: I am truly amazed by your in depth knowledge on this book. I have never had a chance to read or own a copy of this amazing encyclopedia of knowledge by Vatsyayan Rishi, until now, so I bow my head to your knowledge on this pre BC epic. I guess the folks were too strict on us using it as classroom text or possessing it at home in the pre-Internet era. But I can see that it is a "required" reading here :)

Does a text have the same value, whether it's in the form of a sewn codex of handmade linen paper, or a mass-produced paperback, sold by Amazon for $4.99?

Depends whether you want to carry it as a weekenders edition kit or you want to gift it to a bride to be.
So this 350 year old edition, could be a pass on ancestral personal copy to keep for generations of bride's in the family. No wonder, why the book under the pillow evokes mind blowing s****** scripting at times (and impresses Abby, CLUB & many PnQ fans) :).
