    Cherry blossom possum
Had a memory that was rotten
Which made all his friends laugh
    They laughed like a giraffe
And at his very pink bottom
But by the very next day
    He'd completely forgotten

I cant believe we're already in the 2nd thread!!!!

    _________

i open my eyes on a brown
cold sofa my arm, very short,
    hanging from the side.

i left my body up, trying
to get up but my feet
    cant reach the ground.

    i hear weeping
    from the room next door;
    a woman's voice.

    "I can't believe he's gone"

    rainbow clouds

I like to invent worlds in my head
    When reality becomes too heavy.
They're free of sadness and dread-
    The perfect place for me.
They're full of joy and smiles,
Where no one let's you down.
    Happiness is like a style,
    One that never goes out.
So whenever life becomes too loud,
I invent worlds with blue skies and rainbow clouds.

    Vanilla beans.

    you covered me
    with the softest quilt,
    and when i wanted to
    run from everything good,
    you reminded me
    that i deserve the gentlest
    kind of love.

    a bad trumpet player

  • Larry Chamberlin replied to Poet on the Piano

He plays in front of the courthouse
every day, cold or heat of sun,
his trumpet much richer than his notes
I'm sure he's proud of it, self-taught man,
but just once I'd like him to play
"As Time Goes By" in tune.
    Still, you must remember this.

it was a quiet dawn just
like so many before it, my
    eyes dazed in the morning
haze, the coffee in my hand
struggled to get in my system,
as my grip got steadier I felt
    you grab my shoulder firmly.

I didn't know you would return,
    with you came joy accompanied
    by sorrow.

    your wandering eyes finally met mine;
i shook my head and incredulous,
you searched the room, once more.

i handed you his uniform and medals,
    you collapsed onto the floor,
still incredulous, you kept your eyes
    glued to the door.

"were you with him?" you asked.
"yes" i said, all the while hoping
    that soon enough.

    I've had to layer myself
    lately, not with fabric, but
    with care and caution,
    reminding myself that, even
    though your daggers
    aren't as lethal,
    you're still a chameleon;
    I can't let myself be
    comfortable with you
    for too long.

    a mirage in the desert

  • Star replied to Poet on the Piano

    It wasn't the wind,
    I was sure I heard
    the trees murmuring.

    A jasmine tree to another,
retelling the story of the girl
    from far lands, the one
    who followed death while
    seeking shelter in a mirage.

    Found home in his underworld,
her soul couldn't rest in the pitch
    darkness he shoveled himself
    within.

    Moments after the tunnel came
    tumbling down, crushing my car
I was reminded, in my final breath,
of the similar dark horror I felt, being trapped in a lift as a child:
the very life being sucked from my lungs

    * A pocket full of hearts

Title: A pocket full of hearts

    I was just doing laundry
    But man!
Even though my mamma taught me strongly
to check the pockets in my jeans,
I forgot to do just that with yours
And so I heard the washing machine
    pump pump pump Bang!

    Bloody He..

    Prompt : out of imagination

  • Mr. Darcy replied to Everlasting

    Plucked from the middle
    'gin'

    It makes me smile
    the more I drink
    It makes me dial
    and so I think

    I think of water
    how deep it goes
    I think of fire
    How much it grows

    It grows in lines
    Along the road
    It grows in vines
    across my toes

    Trailing lives
    Become a mess
    Sailing lives
    A voyage blessed

    Prompt: Left in a pram

  • Larry Chamberlin replied to Mr. Darcy
    3 years ago

(With apologies to Joni Mitchell for the Woodstock parody)

I came upon a child of god
    lying alone in his pram
I asked where were his parents
    this he told me:
We were going down to Yasgar's Farm
they were going to join a rock & roll band
    but they dropped some window-pain
    it set their souls free
    and they left me be.

I asked him if I could take him
    raise him as my own.
Well maybe it's the time of year,
or maybe it's the age of the babe
but he accepted me and grew
into a beautiful child and man.
