Secret Santa Poems!

Hi! Happy Holidays to those who celebrate. And if you don't, I hope this weekend is pleasant and relaxing and whatever you need it to be. Thank you to the poets who participated, and for giving one of the best gifts, the gift of poetry! Hope everyone has as much fun reading these as I did! I chose to leave the writers behind the poems anonymous, as some had preferred that, but will leave it up to the writers if they want to post about it on here or not. Hope you all stay happy and healthy during this time! Take care :)

I know a girl who lives in the spaces
    between letters and words.
    She comfortably flits through meanings
    and decomposes understood notions.

Ghosts of paragraphs banter with her
    filling the spaces between
    letters and words with jasmines
growing in the hollows of life.

She both knows and feels the world
    daring to explore unbearable visions
both unreal and fantastic and then
return to the palatable truth of dreams.

    Rhododendron

    (lilies and azaleas here,
    they all die together)

My house is a graveyard of flowers,
but Rhododendrons bloom even within these walls.
Salmon-pink buds peek through tender skin
    as the spring wind breaks them open;
nimbly curled out leaves and petals
    nod together like Christmas bells.

    It is winter
and oh, I do not know you, but I know
    Rhododendrons burst open even when
    you hold a pen.

Your alias is the meaning of my name
You are a light so distant, far away from me
Yet so vibrant when dark times come

    Thank You

You are a Sun, so warm
You give life to those revolving around you
    And even though,
At times, you may feel like you are stuck
    Without the ability to move
Believe me when I say this
    You move, you move me

    And when you feel powerless,
    Because I know you do…
Just know, that you are not.
You hold a power so strong
A power capable to change the world

Keep rotating within your own axis
Keep on orbiting within our galaxy

    Tomorrow will be another day
Tomorrow will be the day to shine

    You barefooted make your way
across a running river, your feet
    covered in mud and silt
yet you feel the energy moving
    through your body.

You inhale the fresh forest smell,
and hold it in waiting for it to
    clear your mind, you exhale
to make your way into the woods
as if a pine is calling to you.

You rest your back on its trunk
    and close your eyes.

For a minute reality stirs you
in its bitterest cups, you fight
to stay afloat till you realize
    it’s all in your head.

    You let a sigh out,

    brings you back to the tree trunk;
the world opens up. You feel the
    warmth of the burning stars
    caressing your face then you
    lose all your senses.

You know this time you shouldn’t
fight back, instead let the earth
beneath hold you and hush your
    frantic soul.

You open your eyes, the universe
recovered all its colors and the
voices are no longer harassing you.

Author's note: *I wasn’t sure what to write until I read Michael's poem Depth, and I though maybe it’s a good idea to write something like a reply to that.

To the one who stole birds

Upon plucking the light of the ripened
mango-yellow sun, you imbue it into
the cold, forlorn walls of P&Q
    through a watchful eye,
    through your company,
    and words of poetry
    that have steadily
    smelled of dianthus.

    From the generations of
    writers you’ve inspired
    to the sansevieria
    that has been thriving for
    years – your hands are
    well practiced in the
    art of nurturing.

    So to you,
    one queen of P&Q,
    I wish you the
    happiest of holidays!

    To a dear fellow poet.

    I’ve
    pulled
    something
    from my sleeve
    and placed it carefully
in a gift box along with a pinch
of a seasonal good will scent
wrapped it finely in ribbons of holly
and ivy to seal its essence
    I’ve posted with the words
    handle with care for it
    has been broken many
    times before
    I hope it
    stays in
    one piece
    in your
    hands

You bring a light wherever you go,
forging your own path as the storms blow.
I find you in the valley of rhymes,
as your voice echoes like wise wind chimes.

    Your imagination sparks many dreams,
of colorful lands and poignant streams.
Despite the hardships you may face,
    laughter and positivity you embrace.

You always strive to step up and be kind,
no matter how steep the hill is inclined.
I find you always present to lend a hand,
even when drought ravages the land.

There is always creativity in your sky,
and a path of hope that holds no goodbye.
I am grateful for all the joy you share,
teaching that life is to live, love, and dare.
