Cats are smarter I believe too. I also love all animals (ok - just see Jane's post and that pretty much sums me up too) except I've had a bad experience with cats - got an old cat I rescued from some farm where they wanted to put her down - she was a bit wild. I paid to get her desexed and after having her two weeks, paying $300 to desex her, nursing her back to health, she ran away and never came back. :( I even read books on how to get cats adjusted to a new area (putting a bit of marg on their paws when they go outside, makes them lick their paws, they smell and taste the new area which gets them accustomed to it etc - and still the little blighter took off. I used to see her every now and again years later (left food out for her too and a nice blanket in the winter for her to sleep on) but she was just too independent to be "owned". |

^ It happens. Because a breed is domestic does not mean that all of the cats of that breed are. All of my cats are rescue cats, and believe me, we've owned 20-30 in my lifetime. One cat we rescued was untamable. We could have broken him--made him a strictly indoor cat or something, but my family isn't into animal cruelty. He hasn't been inside our house since he was a kitten, a week after we rescued him off the streets eating potatoe chips. With plenty of patience, you can get close enough to pet him...but that's it. We leave food out for him morning and night and he spends hours a day sitting outside on the windowsill of our living room, looking in. He has a wild heart. One whose spirit cannot be broken. Hahaha. That, or he's claustrophobic. |

Yeah it didn't help tho that we had a dog as well so we kept her inside (as we had to because she had stitches in her and needed to be nursed) and she would let me pet her (but not my husband - haha) and I'd talk to her for hours, but yeah once she escaped and I saw her around - I just let her be and she's happier being wild. She's a survivor tho for sure. |

I love dogs, but as someone posted above, smarter? I don't know about smarter, as the puppies get under my feet lots of times, trying to make me fall (and I'm pregnant), not good. So, its a struggle at times.. |
