David, though I understand what you mean in terms of our culture evolving and growing out of believing that the earth was the center of everything, can't you incorporate a little imagination[or brain power] and realize that people have ALSO evolved from worshiping corpses into our current "evolved" religions.

And who's to say which is better? Certainly not you. Nor I, or anyone else here.

Nikki with the "oOo's", what the hell is your obsession with capitalization?

Aubrey Michelle, don't try to make people believe in god. Just don't. It's not worth it, and it's absolutely insulting if you ask me.

Jade, haha, I laughed at your picture.

Just Another Dreamer, I believe people end up how they figure they'll end up. There was some girl who posted about a man who wasn't "saved" who said there were flames around his bed before he died. Please. I admit, I'm not a scientist, nor do I put much faith[if any] into religions. But if you believe in god, and believe you're going to heaven, then I think you probably will. Or at least, you will in your mind right as you're dying. And then, well. Then I figure it's over. I've never seen a person die, but I've seen animals die many a time[more than I'd like to], some, even in my hands. I can assure you that there was no epiphany of departure. They just died. And, as scary as it might be to admit, that was all there was.

I think people invented religion to help explain things that they couldn't understand. For instance, pagan religions often have gods who embody the wind, or the rain. If you couldn't explain in any other way why it got cold in the winter, then you create a reason. And, since it's all too great for one to understand, then the being which claims the force would be one of the strongest power. Humans are the most evolved[as far as I know] species on the planet. So it would make sense to have a god modeled after us. Especially, if one was to pray to it.

I do have a question though. Christians, do you believe in angels? Do you believe in a heaven where all is above the clouds? And, do you think that a god who loved us all so much would allow us to go to hell, even when he's supposed to offer us the ultimate in compassion?

Christianity, above all other religions, seems to me the most backwards, inside-out, and hypocritical religion. And, though I'm not against it, I often find it utterly appauling.

Security pillow. i understand what you're saying but i don't worship a corpse. i'm a baptist and jesus died for me not so i can hang his crucified body on my wall and then go do bad.

i do not adorn myself with wwjd bracelets. in my opinion i don't need instruction from some "infallible" human, i get my instruction from God.
i don't practice lint, i don't beat myself like some religions. but i'll do good, so if i'm wrong and we don't get saved by trusting in jesus and asking him to save me, then i'm still good in the works department.

i don't expect anyone to understand. rationalism is the big thing in the world. people don't want to believe in some elusive deity. they want concrete existence, and a solid foundation. i can't blame you. but that isn't for me
