"so if 'god' is the almighty powerful being, and he wants us to love each other and have peace, then why is there war?"

War is not the great doings of God. War is manmade, hah. War proceeds through the sheer ignorance of world leaders, ruthless parties and uninformed nations. It is a shame, really. Though of course, God is the Almighty and most powerful being; but his job isn't to place an end to war. He could turn back time if he wanted to, end poverty, cure the blind and even hold back tsunamis and earthquakes with his little finger. But no; instead he is waiting and watching for the likes of one, perhaps thousands of more humans to decide to abolish it for good, and consequently reward them on the Day of Judgment.

"and also, why at church do they say you have to believe in god to go to heaven? that's just like being racist or sexist or something, that says that if you don't believe in god, you go to hell! but they also say that god is the one who made us all equal in the first place!"

The latter part concerning equality has nothing to do with the first bit of your argument there. Christians believe that God is present in three forms: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In order to be Christian, one must fully believe in Jesus. And to believe in Jesus, means believing in God. Therefore, it isn't a matter of being similar to or the same as racial or sexist behaviour. This is a matter of whether or not one accepts that God is the Almighty and that there is a place for the 'sheep', 'goats' and the normies (purgatory) (or more amusingly known as the good, the bad and the ugly :)

    Psch.

    Question:

Where are you going with this? It's a question of belief, and you can't account for anyone either way.
What are you planning? A vote, a show of hands for who believes in god or not? Will that lead you to the all important truth of life?

    What's wrong with you!?
Stop trying to convince others, and focus on what YOU believe. If others have a problem with it, hell, that's their problem.

And if they live in ignorence, or they end up in hell, then whatever. Not your problem.
I'm so sick of these threads with no point but to disagree. You aren't getting anywhere. Lay off.

Honey, you started it, you can't end it just because it isn't going your way. Oh well. So I'm an Atheist and I spent 7 years going to a Christian School, they tried to shove the concept down my throat, and I believed it for a while...but then reality hit and I realized that we are alone, no higher power exists...I guess some people want to believe in God because they're scared of thinking that there's no place to go when we die. Haven't you ever seen one of those tv shows or read a book where a coroner is taking apart the body of the deceased and he's with another man and says "See this? This is all we are in the end." I think that the brain is all that there is. There's no truth and no fiction. Just what we think we know and what is right in our minds. When the mind dies, it doesn't go anywhere else. "Spirits" are all in our heads, literally. Death is death, it's the end of your life, and all that you are/ were. No reincarnation. No nothing. Just death.

I think Restlefan people in here are angry at the fact that you would pit their beliefs against each other...

It may be a good way to start a debate, but like any good organizational planner, you must mediate and moderate and steer the conversation which you failed to do...

I am a commited Atheist, and I think that there is no way God, the Devil, Heaven, or Hell could exist.

If God created all men equal, why do some children get bron into rich families and get everything they want, while others are struggling to eat? Why would God punish people by sending world disasters down upon them?

I think people just believe in God because they are scared and afraid to accept that there might not be anything after death. I think the devil was made up so people could blame all bad things on him, saying, "Oh, well this didn't turn out so great, I guess it was the Devil's work, not God's." It just doesn't make sense to me.

All paranormal I've ever heard of can be explained by either
    1. Science or
    2. Coincidence

So that's my point, and I'm sticking to it.

Not everyone is going to believe in the same thing, the same way. One can believe in God and the devil and not believe in heaven and hell. Each person, even if they share the same faith as another, worships in their own way. We should not want to do good and care about one another out of fear of what some great creator might do to us, we should do it because it is the right thing to do. Religion is too much about fear for me. So while I may or may not believe in God, I don't believe in the church.

Blankillusion i agree with what you said about the eprson that line he put was really kinda sad to include

on my own opinion about religion... it mixed with money is the creation of all evil in the world so jsut think about what every war was fight over starting from the crusades.. even the egyptians and stuff...so yeah but i never did say i did not beleive in god... i also think god does not have anything to do with our lvies here on earth ive ehard some religions say that god knows what and where we are going to end up in the future i thinks thats a bunch of bull... and also not trying to criticize all your religions but does a great almighty wonderful all loving god really want people to worship him.. and if he does is he really all the great and loving???
atleast the old testament made sense on why people followed god lol for fear anyways thats jsut my opinion no one else needs to ahve it but it will never change = ]

Well I say that anyone who doesn't believe in some of those things should try going to different churches. Sometimes, the things ppl say about God and how much he loves us can touch your hearts immensely. I know from expirience. It happens to me all the time. I'm going to a sort of camp for my church right now, and everytime I go there, my heart just feels at peace with God. It's a great feeling. Just try going to some place where you can learn about God. It will help you and trust me, you will want to believe and you will trust in God with everything you do. He will be there to help you through it all.

Science? oh please! science is me hitting a piece of metal with a hammer and deciding that it makes a noise. up until the 1400's people believed the earth was the center of the universe.

no sense of if there is a god or not can be decided with science.
did you know up until the 19th century it was a scientific belief that if you were sick then the proper course to make you better was the bleeding out of bad blood.

needless to say that these things sound odd to us, but in the year 3000 if we survive that long they'll think of our scientific "knowledge" just as much taboo

My personal opinion on religion is that i would rather believe in something great than nothing.

i would rather have motivation to be good and do right knowing i'm gonna get all my good and bad choices slapped in my face at the judgement then just give into the fact that i'm going to die and then nothing. or die and go to limbo for eternity.

I don't think that god makes anything better. Seriously and love can be explained by science. When someone does something kind for you or for someone around you a chemical in your brain is released that causes the feeling of happiness. If your life was crap did you ever consider that god wasn't the sole of it? Maybe you just saw a lot of kindness recently and that's why everything went better. God had nothing to do with it, trust me. And it bothers me that everyone who is in the Christian religion thinks that people who don't believe in god are automatically immoral and going to 'hell'. Excuse me, but I'm an aggressive atheist and would never want to intentionally cause harm to anyone. That's really stereotypical. I want to help people and I don't care if I'm rich or poor or going to hell or heaven because I know that I'm doing something nice for someone and it's helping them and me. That chemical is released when you do something nice for someone else too. And to say that it doesn't matter what kindness you do for people because if you have a different religion than Christianity you're going to hell. . . that's ludicrous. Feel free to do whatever and worship whatever suits you, but once you start judging my right vs. wrong because of MY religion, that's when I get pissed. And, umm, death = freedom? Give me a break. I think I found that on one of my friends suicide notes a long time ago, after he killed himself, actually.
I also find that people who kill themselves for 'god' or 'jesus' aren't part of a cult, just that religion. Actually, when you really think about it, isn't Christianity a cult? I mean, it shows all the cult signs.

Cult: "devoted attachment to, or extravagant admiration for, a person, principle, or lifestyle, esp. when regarded as a fad. A group of followers."

Let's see; Jesus was a person, who is worshipped among Christians. Christians believe in and follow his beliefs. Christians put crosses everywhere and statues of Christian icons as part of their lifestyle. And to top it off, in the BCE era, you'd be killed for this religious view, which makes it a modern 'fad'.

If you're offended, my dear, I have made my point.

I Agree. If you don't believe in God, that's your choice. I just wish there was someway that I could help you to believe. Just send me any messages and I would be glad to explain it all to you. You just have to believe. The things that God can do for you is unbelievable. It is a miracle if you baby was sick and you prayed and it got better. It was out of the love that God had for your child that it survived. Sure medication helped with it. But what if it was a sickness that not yet had a medication to heal it, and miraculously, your baby got healed. All the work of God. Besides, if you don't believe in God, what is the point of living on this earth. Is it just to live and die and that be it. No, it's to try to make your way to heaven. Once you get there, you'll never want to leave. It is the most wonderful place you could ever want to be. You can meet Jesus face to face. My opinion, that would be the most awesome thing ever. I wish I could see him right now. I get to go tonight with my church and sit for and hour in silence, and just talk to Jesus. If it is quiet enough, you can, CAN, hear him. He always talks to you. The reason you can't hear him is because of all the noise that goes on around here. If it is quiet enough, you can hear him. He talks in whispers to you. I hope that I can hear him talking to me tonight. To me, that would be considered to be a miracle. To finally hear the voice of God talking back to me. It would just be great, and a great feeling. Being surrounded by his love and mercy. I hope that if you don't believe, that someday you realize that Jesus is the Savior, the living Word that you will learn that you cannot live without.

    Best of Luck

Actually love can be explained through science. It's a certain chemical that is released that makes you feel that way. It was in an article that I read way back in the end of '05. So I don't remember it to well but you can look it up. And by the way ever wonder why people don't say "I God you". Oh yea that's right because God isn't love. :) Sorry but please don't capitalize every word... it's annoying. Anyways. God can't be proven where as science can be. (You can have experiments and variable groups with science. You can't do that with religion.)

There really is no point in debating this. The religious fanatics will just say: 'The proof he exists is faith'. And I'll just say: 'That's not proof that's blindly following what you were taught your whole life.' They're retort: 'The bible says so'. And I'll point out who asinine it is to blindly follow a book written by some unknown guy two thousand years ago. And blah blah blah.

I would just like to say this to the Bible Thumpers: "You can't go through your life limiting yourself and your life by the things that you've been taught from birth. You need to question things a bit. I'm not saying give up your beliefs but just step back and look at it all rationally. Forget everything you were taught for a minute forget all of the passages and quotes from the bible. Then ask yourself:

What is logical here? Should I immediately throw in with one dogmatic religion and belief? Or should I look at the possibility that someone else might have it right? Another religion or none might be right?

    Peace.

Sorry if I didn't know that was a reference only to Jesus Christ. Maybe you could be a little more specific, especially if you want to win an arguement. Well do whatever you want, if you want to be an angry close-minded religous finatic, then fine. Who am I to make you think outside the box, right? Know what I think? I think that if that's the only thing you have to say about there being proof that god exists, then there's no debating it. God obviously exists only in the human mind.

    Well I am a Christian.

I believe that Jesus Christ lived on Earth and died for our sins. I believe in Heaven but I have a hard time believing in Hell. My only point is that if God really loves everyone and is forgiving, I have a hard time seeing him condem someone to live eternity in Hell....

And what do you think about people who lived before Jesus came? Do they go to Hell?

Or what about people who live over in the Middle East who aren't exposed to Christianity. Do they go to Hell for not knowing any better?

You should let me know how you feel on some of these questions. Because if you do have an answer, I'd love to here it.

And Also, ppl don't kill themselves for God, they mostly get killed for what they believe in. It's not that their brainwashed and they think they have to kill themselves for God, it's that their forced to make a decision. Say that you believe in God, get killed, and go live in heaven. Or, say you don't believe in God and either get killed anyway and go to Hell, or live the rest of your life with regret of saying that. Cuz, if you do believe in God, that could be a great sin to commit, and it's not right to say that you don't believe in God unless you truly do. And if you don't believe in God, I pray for you.
