Only the Sounds, Not the Voice

by Kelsie Danielle   Mar 20, 2012

Sitting
Sitting in a quiet room
Waiting
Waiting for the voice
Only to be disappointed.

I find myself hearing the sounds:
The rumble of house
The creak of floor
Step after step
The air conditioner blowing
The door opening and closing

Look up
Look down
What's that?
A voice?

I hear it coming from the outside world
Not the one I was waiting for

It sounds happy though
Having a lot fun
I can tell
While I am just sitting here
Listing to the grandfather clock
Tick after tick

The grey cat is licking her hair
And purring
If she only knew
The pain of quietness
