The Willow and The Maple

The Willow and The Maple

I'm not quite sure
where I'm going with this
sometimes it's really hard
to put thoughts to paper
searching for the right words
to express your true feelings
and having them understood
without being taken the wrong way

You see, there's a story to be told
about these two old trees...

they once stood tall and proud
rooted for years together in friendship
sharing their deepest darkest secrets
understanding what the other was about
and loved unconditionally
they laughed a lot about nothing in particular
and when one shed tears the other would
take their leaves and gently wipe them away
two different types and although not related
they were...

Then one hot summer day
awful things happened
leaves wilted, limbs snapped
and with broken hearts
they were uprooted, gone separate ways
never to stand side by side again

I know the Willow thought about the Maple often
she was always in her heart
Willow wondered if the sun were shining down
on Maple replenishing the nourishment
that she was so badly craving
Willow never wanted any harm to befall Maple
she ached to hear Maples leaves rustle again
all she wanted was for Maple to be at peace with herself
find a mate who will help her see her true beauty
in the hopes that she will one day be rooted again

After three long changes of seasons
where leaves have come and leaves have gone
the Willow and the Maple
stand tall and proud again
maybe not rooted together
like they were before
but each have grown and are happy
with a renewed look on life
and friendship...

what's in the past can never be
completely forgotten
because that is what molds us
into who we are today

but...

these things can be forgiven
if we truly have learned from our mistakes

So...

the Willow and the Maple
will continue to thrive
for many more years to come

And...

the Willow will forever
love her Maple

    I'm in tears!!!!!!

ughhh.....this is even more beautiful to someone like me who knows the background behind this poem, because to see a friendship reunited after a fall out is just beyond inspiring...it sucks that our minds will not let us forget what happened, but I agree it molds people into who they are, and forgiveness is more important than forgetting. ..so happy for you two!

This was so so touching, it shows true friendship and how although these two trees have had their differences, there is no distance too far between two true friends.

The ups and downs is what makes the friendship stronger and last for always. I love the nature scenes in this poem, how peacful it was ( summer ) and then the storm that broke you apart ( winter ) and then their was autum when all the leaves feel off the tree's but there was spring to put all the leaves back on again.

It is just beautiful and the story is one which many friends will relate to I think.

    Beautiful job x

And The Maple will always love her Willow.. This brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. I love you and this poem...

edit: I need to add more... true friendships, can withstand the harshest of storms, if the heart of a tree still beats... I'm rambling apple.. but you know what I mean.. always in my heart.. your adorable smile, your precious soul.. and my dearest friend...sometimes it takes separation to see and feel the true love of a friend.. I missed you but I have to say, I never stopped thinking of you either... just want my sweet apple happy... and she is.. I love you, always...
