Against an army of one

by Meme   Apr 28, 2015

Stop talking to me
from behind your
walls of doubt.

I pushed against
every brick you
once built, and I
still do, just to see
a glimpse of the
real you. But are
you even real?

There is no point
in building a castle
just for one.

To be trapped in
the middle of a
place that echoes
nothing but your
silence. Tell me,
is it worth it ? To
hide behind your
soldier-less forts
instead of fighting?

I will stand to demand
a battle, maybe then
you might understand.

It's true you came
to love me first, but
I am the one who is
still loving you last!

When a relationship goes sour, sometimes the true strength of one can overcome defeat and bring the two back to life.

loved this poem it was really adorable and relatable to others. Many men and women have gone through this because they want to make their relationships work, even if they have to find the person that they love within the outer shell. I wanted to shed a tear because of the last two lines, those two lines tell something so bittersweet and loving. A beautiful love poem, and vent. Really stunning as all this poet's poems are!

This poem gives me pause. On the one hand it is beautiful in its depiction of trying to pry the other from his protective shell, his "castle / just for one." In doing so the poem is remarkable in its imagery (" trapped in / the middle of a / place that echoes / nothing but your / silence"). On the other hand, it is also so full of foreboding (" But are / you even real?") that I wonder if it's ever going to be worth the while to go through these heroics. (Contest Comment)

Meme, your words ring with so much truth. I can especially relate to the other character you are talking to. A lot of times it is difficult to open up to a person we love because of past hurt and pain. We fight but sometimes it is not enough and it is tiring to keep fighting because of depression. Anyways thank you for sharing this as it is relatable. 5/5
