What I'm scared of

by D. Lloyd   Mar 14, 2016

As a marine we are taught not to fear death.
To go through pain with obedience and discipline.
But I won't pretend to be fearless,

because I am scared.

But what I'm scared of
is the thought that I may have very well kissed my mother good bye for the last time.

That I may never have the chance to truly love again.

That I won't be able to see my children grow up to be more successful than I ever could.

And that scares the hell out of me.

At the same time those things that I'm scared of is the exact reasons I am willing to lay down my life.
To ensure a home where all of that is possible.

If not for me, it's for my brother and sister.

As an Australian, Thank you for fighting along side our Army men and women :)
Its only natural we are all scared of something.

    Excellently written. Well done

This is by far your best.

I have a cousin in the marines and he acts all 'macho man' but we know he has these fears himself, every marine, soldier etc does. Such a heartfelt piece.

    Hello Lloyd,

having fear is necessary as a marine, as a father, son, brother...
without it who are we - nothing! It is all about perspective and balance...

As Hellon states, an honest write.

    Well done,

    Michael
