While You Slumber (ode to the soldier)

by CJ Maleney   Mar 14, 2017

I doubt that you will think of them
But I assure you they are there.
For your sleep they sacrifice their own.
They watch the world rotate with care

Miles from home and lonely
It's your life and hearts they hold
Baking in a desert
Or freezing in the cold

Some stuck behind a screen
Some hiding in a ditch or hole
All of this they willingly do
To keep us safe back home

The sacrifices they have made
The pain and all that blood
Spare a thought before you sleep
For they are the ones that stood

Craig, I can see you're going to be a great addition to this site and one thats treasured for years to come. Your writes (even if they can take a couple of mins sometimes) are always honest, raw and partly emotional oh and sometimes hilarious.

1/ This is so very true unfortunately the armed forces don't really get as much thought or credit as they should.

2/ I found myself nodding along here. We don't realise just what they go through, the whether conditions, the lonely nights no doubt some crying silently because they don't want to seem soft and they put their lives on the line for us to keep ours.

3/ Again, I am nodding no matter what their job title within the forces they do it for their country to keep us all safe and they need more recognition.

4/ I will say a prayer of thanks for those who are still out fighting.

    Thank you for sharing this.

Even when you think it's over some guys are still out there,

I'm glad you got the meaning of this.

      Tips ones hat

      Craig x

Ps our forces don't like recognition, well the guys on the ground anyway. They know what they do and they accept that duty.

But it's nice to know someone's thinking back home
