Keep Looking Up

by Alex Penuelas   Dec 20, 2017

I like being able
To see the stars at night
When I can.

It really allows you
To put your life
Into perspective.

We have become
So accustomed to the light pollution
That we sometimes forget
The true magnificence of our universe.

Seeing Polaris, Orion's Belt, and the Big Dipper
Brings back memories of when
I would spend many a night
Searching for them.

It reminds me that
We, as a species,
Are all locked on the
Same celestial spaceship
Hurling through the solar system
Around our sun.

That we all,
No matter where we come from,
Live and die on the same spaceship
That shows no borders.

We are all connected,
In more ways than one.

In fact the building blocks
To our atoms were all forged
In the fires of stars,
Which were scattered all
Throughout the universe.

Our DNA reveals that
We are all related to one another,
And to every other living creature
On this planet.

We all want the same things.

We all want food,
We all want water,
We all want to live happy and healthy lives.

We all want shelters,
We all want homes,
We all want and crave the love from one another.

We are all the same,
No matter how different
We appear to be.

I just wish more people would realize that.

If they did,
Who knows what we can accomplish?

I guess
All you really need to do
Is look up to the stars
To come down to earth.
