The Red, White And The Blue

by Mark Spencer   Jan 30, 2005

Red is for each drop of blood
Of soldiers who have died.
Fighting for our freedom,
Our people and our pride.

They fought a revolution,
And two bloody world wars.
They went to Vietnam,
And died on foreign shores.

So here is to the soldiers,
We are in their debt.
And the flag will fly the red
So none of us forget.

White is for the immigrants,
Every race and every creed.
The farmers and the workers
Who planted freedom's seed.

Businesses and industry
Spread out across this land.
They are the foundation
On which this country stands.

So here's to the immigrants,
We are in their debt.
And the flag will fly the white
So none of us forget.

Blue is for miss liberty,
Forever may she stand.
Proudly holding freedom's torch
In her noble hand.

She stands for an ideal,
Our father's legacy.
A symbol of the courage
That made this country free.

So here's to miss liberty,
We are in her debt.
And the flag will fly the blue,
So none of us forget.

And the red, white and the blue
Will fly above this land,
A reminder of our freedom
In the Country where it stands.

The words of our forefathers
Will evermore ring true.
An American ideal,
The red, white and the blue.

Mark, this poem is amazing...a lot of people lose sight of what's really important, I'm glad to see you haven't! People are quick to judge the President and the decisions he makes but they fail to realize that the reason they are able to do that is because of the freedom that our country is built on...thank you so much for reminding us! Great work, definitely a 5!

    "The farmers and the workers
    Who planted freedom's seed."
That was my favorite part. Obviously, this poem will make the majority of Americans choke up due to nationalism...but I liked this poem because the expression, flow, and harmony all worked together. I probably would have even liked it if I wasn't American.
Thanks though, because I have some friends that are fighting in Iraq right now; and they would love to able to read this.
