2012* (written with John Sweet)

by Gary Jurechka   Jan 7, 2006

Science and technology
slayers of myth and religion

succubus computers feed upon
the mortality of man and morals,
traces of humanity are left
strung out in cyberspace

stars burn vivid
when seen through a hole
punched in the sky

the sun hangs where
the hand places it

the crucifix is raised
but fails to
hold the weight of anything
sacred

rushing toward
a doomed prophecy
fate is both
hope and despair

(* According to the Mayan calender, the world as we know it will
end on December 21, 2012-technology will turn on us in retaliation
for our destruction of the natural world)
