Midnight Sky

Rain poured angry against my skin
Soaking my already tear stained face
I gazed up into the midnight sky
And called out to the stars

My voice echoed across the land around me
I walked forward embracing the cold
The clean air filled my lungs
My eyes closed as I listened to its song

The earth stopped moving and all remained calm
I felt his touch caress my bare skin
And then like a ghost it vanished
Into the cloudless night sky

My eyes opened as I fell back into myself
Memories flooded through my mind
Despite the flowing tears down my face
I smiled peacefully to myself

No matter what had come between us
No matter all the tears and the pain
I still loved him as deeply as ever
And as the night went on
I knew I always would...
