Only Eight

by Emilline   Feb 10, 2008

A tear came running down her face
And she opened her big brown eyes
To look in to the face of her abuser
This pain is no surprise

She wonders what she did wrong
She only tried to make him happy
To keep him from hurting her more
She wonders why her lip is so bloody

She has taught herself to hold back tears
But it was him that threatened her not to tell
He knew what he was doing
She knew not to yell

She's only eight, so new to the world
No one understands all her scars
And why she didn't cry when she broke her arm
Or why she always looks to the stars

"Cry you worthless nothing"
Are the last words she heard him say
He lied on the ground still
She thought he was done for today

He rested still upon the ground
"Hello?" was all she said
But he never moved
She didn't know he was dead

She knew not to leave
So she sat there for three days
The police finally came
She finally got away
