See what you can be

by Sexual hysterias   Mar 21, 2008

As I look into my mirror
I search for the that I behold
'tis not what others look & see
but for what inside, I hold

People think they know me
But look inside and you will see
not the person that you thought
But someone else is what will be

If you really think you know me
Try walking in my shoes
Not everything that shows
Is really what I choose

I cannot fly the highest skies
I cannot reach heavenâ??s gates
The one thing that I can do
Is be the me that God creates

Labels are not what you think
they aren't what you have made of them
Flowers are meant for beauty
and labels are for their stem

If you look all around you
the people you will see
Are based by things you've imagined
both different to you and me

Everyone was made to be them
not what you want them to be
all you can do is critize
And confident is no longer she

If everyone was given their fair chance
So much less people would be depressed
The world would be a much better place
Then more people could finally feel blessed

Stereotypes really do hurt
the less you think, the less you care
but if you really saw the pain you cause
No longer would you just stand and stare

The more you label someone
the more they will believe in it
No longer will they be themselves
Because they've forgotten what that meant

So speak to yourselves and really ask
Is the person I want to be
Truly who I am on the inside
or what others have made of me

Labels are for soup cans
not people who could be
someone smart and truthful
not what others think they see
