Sunshine on Self-Discovery

by Sexual hysterias   Sep 17, 2011

As I look into my mirror
I search for thee that I behold
'tis not what others look and see
but for what inside, I hold

People think they know me
But look inside and you will see
not the person that you thought
But someone else is whom will be

If you really think you understand
Try walking in my shoes
Not everything that shows
Is really what I choose

My name is what you utter
As you scream profanities
But what you cannot seem to grasp
Is the me that hides beneath the scenes

So, I'll speak these words with passion
I'll learn to raise my voice
I'll live for helping others
As my soul lives to rejoice

I cannot move in rhythm
My song cannot be sang
For my heels are tied by one left shoe
And no harmony has rang

I do not dream of winning medals
Nor do I want to be a star
I simply want to bless the lives
of children, near and far

I know that I'm not perfect
But that's what makes me true
I'd like to think that I'm unique
You know, different, just like you

I simply aspire to be myself ;

I cannot fly the highest skies
I cannot reach heaven's gates
But, the one thing that I can do
Is be the me that God creates

  • For some reason I just kinda stumbled upon this poem following a string of things beginning with a comment of yours on mine. I love this poem. One of the things I hate in today's world is that everyone is trying so hard to be socially accepted, they miss out on the fact that if you can't be yourself around your 'friends' then maybe they shouldn't be your friends. LOVE EEEET! ^_^
