The "Dream"

by Natalie   Mar 27, 2008

The dream to be good,
The dream of reform
Every man I ever met
Liar says he has it.
I fell for each and every one of you
Believed you held the dream
And every time I realised that you all lied
A part of my soul died
A part of my humbleness,
My humility.
Instead, now there lies hate and disgust
Hate and disgust in the deepest corner of my soul
Loss of faith in men and people
Men and humanity.
I dreamt you all had the dream
I dreamt you all had a path ahead,
But like with all dreams,
One soon wakes,
Wakes to see the emptiness that lies in all
Lies in all men like you.
But only then do I realise that in believing you,
I was empty too.

***This poem is an old one! Over 2 years... wow! lol! I think it is powerful for 1 reason and 1 alone. I wrote it only days after being beaten by a boyfriend. So it is pretty much discribing how my heart was breaking at the time. ****
