Looking Through Closed Eyes

No place I love more
But the place in my mind

But alas! I must start the new day
If only the day was shorter
Then maybe I could stay

I long for the time I can close my eyes
And see all the things I see
For I see more things with closed eyes
Then I do when they are open

Through closed eyes, I see love grow

Through closed eyes, I see the things my heart desires

But not always,
Are the things I see through closed eyes,
Always so delightful

Because through closed eyes, I see the tragedies of war
Through closed eyes, I see the things I fear as if we were face to face
Through closed eyes, I see a mother lose her child

As I compare what I see
What I hear
What I experience
I still wonder where I learn more
Looking through closed eyes
Or looking through open eyes

Yes, looking through closed eyes may grow my hopes
But I rather soar with hope
Then crash with disappointment

Looking through closed eyes,
Looking through open eyes,
Ah, I cherish both

For without open eyes,
I would not be able to love looking through closed eyes
For without closed eyes,
I would not be able to see things quite so good with open eyes

So many look through open eyes
Seeing things strictly as what they are
They do not see the sparkle in the clouds
They do not see the love the artist has for his painting
They do not see the lonliness of an empty street

Oh! I feel so sorry for those that cannot look through closed eyes
If only they could see what I see
For at least a moment
Then maybe they would appreciate
An artist's masterpiece
A musician's notes

But there will be a day
When it all changes
And those same people
See everything I see
When I'm looking through closed eyes
