Who am I?

by stillmomsgirl   Apr 11, 2008

Who am I?
I am the girl
who smiles
hoping someone
will see through
her mask
[because she's
dying inside]

I'm the girl
who claims
she hates herself
yet stares
in the mirror
for hours
[searching for
something more]

I'm the girl
who cares
too much
yet is convinced
she's selfish
[because they
told her so]

I'm the girl
who longs
for happiness
yet pushes
it away
[because she can't
leave her past behind]

I'm a living,
breathing,
walking
contradiction
[yet not].

Mm awesome. i can definitely relate. these short lines describe contradictions of personality so well. i really love the idea of asking "who am I?" as i think everyone asks themselves theis question at some point of their lives. and so great you expressed this in a poem! the last part is my favoutite. it finishes the poem brilliantly.
i usually love rhymed poems but this one is an exception for me. great write!
