Lasting Breath

by Jemma   May 4, 2008

Strumming to the beat of the devil's war drums
Almost exciting, this downward spiral

What is this life but a fit of fancy?

A masquerade of demons waiting for your fall
Your only lasting breath
Is heavy in your lungs
...
But that's ok

Even angel's slip and slide
Nothing matters when all eyes are blind
And we're deaf to the screams
Begging for a mercy they're too good to receive.

It still made no sense to a plebeian like me

We're tapping our toes to a tune that is hitting the airwaves
And hell we're so lost in the music
That it tore us up as we were singing

In seaside shanties we find a brief home
But there's going to be no one left to welcome me us
All the windswept warriors, begging for a place in Heaven

The fire's in our eyes but we can't stop looking
Like moths to a flame
Power burns our soul
But we love the feeling.

When the boundaries break and we're just standing,
Waiting for the bomb to hit
Have we ever felt so alone
Or our blood so weak and feeble?

There's always someone who can understand.
Even if they're no help at all
You're no help at all
Don't sympathise or empathise
You don't know what its like to be me

Too tired to see through the lies they weave me
Too weary to live in this world they gave me
But I still stand
Drenched to the bone but my heart is dry.
