A Prayer for my Sisters

Dear God,
I could use some self improvement,
I have a lot of hard work ahead,
I know I'm not the best sister,
I know it's useless to pretend.
But God I pray you watch out for them,
Please take care of my girls,
I wish I could watch out for them,
In this cold and nasty world.
Paula, the baby, help her stay strong,
Help keep her temper from getting control,
But she's sensitive, watch out for her soft spots,
I can't be there to help keep her consoled.
Christina, that girl was the purpose of my life,
I understand why she feels resentment,
Please let her know I'm praying for her tonight,
And I love her is an understatement.
God, don't let tainted hands touch them,
Keep them safe in whatever they do,
Don't let the cruelties of the world get to close,
God, promise me you'll see this through.
Maybe I've already lost them,
But if that's true I can care from a distance,
I can still watch them grow, just let them be happy,
Help them follow their dreams with persistence.
Never let them suffer from pain,
Brought on by too many cruel souls,
Don't ever let anyone contain them,
Or keep them from reaching their goals.
I swear God this matters more to me than my life,
I just want them to have what they need,
I'm not asking for wants or wishes tonight,
I'm asking for my babies' safety.
I'm going to sleep holding these thoughts,
Hopes that you'll grant me my greatest request,
Please don't let me down-please hear my plea,
God I just want them to be blessed.

    I don't even believe in God and this almost made me start crying. Great job. You expressed your feelings in a religious, yet genuine way.

    Wow. This was very emotional for me, because I have two sisters. We don't really show that much love for eachother, but I love them a lot. The fact that you put this into a prayer made it even more emotional, because it was like I was actually praying to God while I was reading it, very personal.

    Sometimes, what we want to say to other people can't be spoken out loud, but writing it down is a good way to get it off your chest. Your sisters are lucky to have you, your love for them is unmistakeable.

    I don't want to pick apart this poem, because it's more that just pretty words, it's real. I can tell this poem means a lot to you, and that makes it perfect in my eyes. So great job.
