You Don't Know Me

by Shane Bowers   Aug 5, 2008

You Don't Know
You don't know the heartache, you don't know the pain
this is a career to be proud of, but for your mistakes you say we are the blame.
You fight us, cuss us, and call us pigs,
this is nothing like Lethal Weapon with Martin and Riggs.
I have seen many things including wrecks, thefts, drunken brawl,
drownings, and even where a guy jumped to his death to end his life in a free fall.
So many things I see during the night,
all while you are in bed snuggled up tight.
When I am ask why I must I do this job I do,
I do it for the safety of my family, Friends, and you.
So many citizens that I do not know are out there,
but does not mean that I do not care.
I did not choose this career, it chose me,
there is nothing else I would rather be.
In doing my job I take great pride,
a few times criminals might have beaten the rap, but they didn't beat the ride.
It is not done for the money or the glory,
and it is nothing like a TV cops story.
The things we see and do are in our memories forever,
trying not to recall them all is a true endeavor.
With all the horror that we see, we still go home with a smile on our face,
and thank God for keeping our families safe.
Working night shift, means time with family that is lost,
but at what cost.
Divorces, separations and even cops commit suicide,
but we still carry on with pride.
There is nothing worse than losing and officer in blue,
you think to your self, that could have been you.
Leaving your children without a father to raise them,
seriously to wear this badge we must be crazed men.
our motto is to protect and serve,
and we vow to give the community the safety it deserves.
if we had a boat , nice clothes and fast cars that would be nice,
just like Crockett and Tubbs on Miami Vice.
This is the real world, I can tell by all the madness I have seen,
and not some show on the TV screen.
Remember the when you see a officer of the law, there is so much you do not know,
if you have any respect please let it show.
