Monster

by Rodney Kirby   Aug 21, 2008

THERE IS A MONSTER IN MY DADDY,
WHO I LOVE VERY MUCH.

SOMETIMES I SEE THE MONSTER,
AND AGAINST MY SKIN I FEEL HIS TOUCH.

I DREW A PICTURE OF MY FAMILY,
FOR THE SPECIAL DOCTOR TO SEE.

HE ASKED ME WHO THEY WERE,
I SAID MY DAD, THE MONSTER AND ME.

SOMETIMES THE MONSTER IS REAL MEAN,
AND MAKES MY DADDY GO AWAY.

MY DADDY TRIES REAL HARD BUT,
THE MONSTER LIKES TO STAY.

HE USUALLY STAYS AWAY, BUT SOMETIMES
HE COMES OUT AT NIGHT.

I KNOW THIS MONSTERS BAD,
SO I PULL MY COVERS TIGHT.

I LOVE MY DADDY WITH ALL MY HEART,
AND KNOW MY DADDY'S GOOD.

MY DADDY HAS ALWAYS LOVED ME,
JUST AS A DADDY SHOULD.

THERE IS A MONSTER INSIDE MY DADDY,
AND I WISH I KNEW WHY.

THE MONSTER MAKES ME SCARED,
AND HIS TOUCH MAKES ME CRY.

I PRAY GOD WILL PUNISH THE MONSTER,
AND GIVE MY DADDY BACK TO ME

IT SEEMS NOBODY CAN SEE THE MONSTER,
NOBODY-----------------BUT ME.

As said above you show the incredible relationship between child and parent and how truly unbreakable it is. You turn such looked down upon topics into something amazing. Very nice.

I love this poem, it's crazy how children can see the worst in their parents, yet still love them alot.

This is very sad!!! You have written a very emotional piece and I can def. relate to that!!!

Children seem to love their parents regardless of how they hurt them, and parents sometimes have no idea the psychological scars they are leaving on their children. An excellent piece, with metaphors fitting the subject!

A father of addiction or alcoholism? A sad read, but children of all ages still want and love of the father or mother that gave them birth.
    Very good job.
