Let me be your Leaf

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Sep 14, 2008

The tree may need the sun, but the sun doesn't need the tree.
So let me be your leaf, and shed me to be replaced.
Let go of this simple leaf. Many more will grow, so set me free.
Trees are deeply rooted, this leaf cannot be chased.

You call me your everything, the thing that keeps you alive,
and that may be so, but I can't be your sun, and this leaf will fall.
Once I've fallen from a branch I'm something you can't revive.
Mother nature is a natural process, not something you can stall.

Let go of me. Move on. Don't let me be your reason for living.
You're already something special to me, but I can't keep this going.
I've let you take so much from me, so now it's time for giving.
Trees will live beyond my years. I'll die, and you will keep growing.
