Stone Hearts

by Ixora   Oct 2, 2008

Three hearts were placed quite close together
promised to stay and love forever
as each year grew so did they
watched the leaves fall and the skies turn gray
when the earth turned each one chose to follow
the distance continued and along came such sorrow
their box lay flat, sealed tight with tape
the memories hidden where they could not escape
distance remained their only salvation
for together they were forced to face such damnation
sadness turned those brown eyes blue
no longer did they breathe nor knew how to
but somehow they lived and continued to smile
despite the addiction, the hope seemed worthwhile
years would pass but again they would meet
to force themselves up and forget defeat
how tragic to find their promise in pieces
and with it the light each one releases
for many a heart has fallen without a trace
and lived a whole life with a stone in its place
